JMU Signee Preston Fowler Looks Forward to Joining the Dukes

By Houston Wilson

Locker Room Access caught up with JMU commit Preston Fowler to discuss his decision to join the Dukes. The 6'7" forward from Brewster Academy is currently ranked 155th in the 247 Sports Class of 2025 rankings and has high expectations for his future in Harrisonburg.

Fowler cited the atmosphere at James Madison University as a key factor in his commitment.

“As soon as I stepped on campus, it just really felt like a family atmosphere, and I could tell immediately that’s where I wanted to be. It’s not too far off from being a high-major program, and it really feels like one because of how nice their facilities are and just the overall vibe on campus.”

The JMU coaching staff sees Fowler as an important addition and believes he can make an impact early in his college career.

“I know that I’m going to have to earn playing time as a freshman, but the staff at JMU has constantly been telling me how well I will fit in their system. They think that if I come in and put the work in right away, I’ll be able to have a nice role my freshman year.”

JMU enters this year's Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the 2 seed, and Fowler believes they have a strong chance to win the tournament and secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

“They have had a few ups and downs this year, but they have a lot of good chemistry and a great chance to win the Sun Belt Tournament. You can tell the guys like to be around each other, and the coaches seem to have a great relationship with the players. I think they have a great chance of making it to the NCAA Tournament.”

When asked what JMU fans can expect from him on the court, Fowler was confident in his response.

“JMU fans can expect a winner. I have won with every team I have been a part of. I won a state championship at my old high school, and this week we are looking to win the EYBL Conference Tournament. So they really can just expect someone that knows what winning feels like.”

Fowler and his Brewster Academy squad will begin their EYBL Conference Tournament run on Wednesday, and he believes they have a strong chance of taking home the title.

“We just have to continue playing like a team and sticking to our roots. We got away from that a couple times throughout the year, but I would just say we have to stick to doing what we know is important, which is constantly playing good defense, talking as a team, and playing as a cohesive unit.”

With his sights set on winning another championship, Fowler remains focused on finishing his high school career strong before leaping to the next level.
